Benin Minister Wins the Presidency

Romuald Wadagni won the election with a very high number of votes.

Voters and election officials in a presidential election setting

Benin's finance minister, Romuald Wadagni, has won the presidential election.

Election officials said he received more than 94% of the vote. Many people expected him to win because he was seen as the choice of outgoing President Patrice Talon.

The result means Benin will soon have a new leader after Talon's ten years in power.

Supporters say Wadagni can bring continuity, but critics will watch closely to see how open and competitive politics remain in the country.
